WELCOME!  Rocky Mountain Tree-Ring Research is a nonprofit research organization founded in 1997 by Peter M. Brown.  We provide expertise in tree-ring collection, dating, and analysis to answer a variety of basic and applied questions in fire and forest history, paleoclimatology, and forest ecology and management.  Our Projects page has more information about current and recent studies, and recent publications can be found here.

LATEST NEWS
Updated Basics Pages, with some tricks and tips on sampling, sample preparation, and how to keep your increment borers clean and sharp.

RMTRR now has wooden core mounts for sale.  See our new pages on tree-ring basics for further information and for some practical instruction on sample collection and preparation.

Please browse our image gallery of tree-ring and other photos related to forest ecology (updated sporadically).  Click on these or any of the other images on the site for larger versions.  Feel free to use any of these images in non-commercial applications (although I would like to know where they are used), but contact me before any commercial use.

Several additions have been made to OLDLIST, the database of maximum tree ages.  Also have a look at the Eastern OLDLIST focused on old trees in the eastern US, maintained by Dr. Neil Pederson at Eastern Kentucky University.
